Teachers can open an assignment to see how students are progressing through the work they have been set. The assignment report gives an overview of the whole class and allows you to inspect individual students in more detail.

1. Assignment Overview

At the top of the assignment report, you can see key information including:

  • Students assigned: The total number of students who received the assignment.
  • Students completed: The number of students who have completed all required work.
  • Completion percentage: The proportion of assigned students who have completed the assignment.
  • Due date: The assignment deadline, if one was set.
  • Instructions: Any instructions included when the assignment was created.
  • Assigned content: The sections, modules, lessons, or topics included in the assignment.

This gives you a quick overview of how the assignment is progressing.

2. Student Progress

The student table shows each assigned student and their current progress.

You can view:

  • Student name
  • Completion status
  • Time spent
  • Score
  • Progress through the assigned content

This makes it easy to identify students who have completed the work, those who are still working through it, and those who may need further support.

3. Completion Status

Assignment completion is based on whether the student has completed all required content.

A student does not need to answer every card correctly for the assignment to be marked as complete.

This means completion and performance should be considered separately.

A student may have completed all required work but still have incorrect answers that are worth reviewing.

4. Time Spent

The Time Spent figure shows recorded activity within the lessons covered by the assignment.

This can include time spent in:

  • Learning
  • Summary
  • Revision
  • Study Mode

The figure is based on recorded activity for the relevant lessons and is not limited to activity completed after the assignment was created.

This means work a student completed in the same lessons before receiving the assignment can contribute to the total.

5. Assignment Score

The assignment score is based on the percentage of required cards whose latest recorded answer is correct.

For example, if an assignment contains 10 required cards and a student has:

  • answered 6 correctly;
  • answered 2 incorrectly; and
  • not attempted 2;
  • their assignment score is 60%.

Unattempted cards remain part of the total, so the score is not simply an accuracy percentage based only on attempted cards.

6. Reviewing Individual Student Responses

Select a student to inspect their progress in more detail.

For assigned flashcards and exercises, Knowness can show:

  • Card identifier: Such as Flashcard F1 or Exercise X1.
  • Lesson: The lesson containing the card.
  • Question: The question the student was shown.
  • Expected answer: The answer associated with the card.
  • Student answer: The student's latest submitted response.
  • Result: Whether the response was correct, incorrect, or skipped.
  • Review time: When the card was attempted.
  • Image answer: Whether the student submitted an image response, where applicable.

Cards are shown in course order, making it easier to review performance in the same sequence as the assigned content.

7. Wider Student Progress

From the assignment report, you can also open the student's information view to see their wider progress beyond the individual assignment.

This can help provide additional context when reviewing assignment performance.

For example, you may want to compare the student's assignment results with their overall course progress or proficiency.

8. Completion Notifications

When a student completes an assignment, the assigning teacher receives an Assignment Completed notification.

The notification identifies:

  • the assignment;
  • the student;
  • the class; and
  • the completion time.

Selecting the notification takes you directly to the assignment report.

An email may also be sent depending on your notification settings.
