5.3 Completing an Assignment

Learn how to complete an assignment and how Knowness tracks your progress automatically.

Assignments are completed through the normal Knowness learning experience.

You do not need to press a separate Submit Assignment button. Knowness automatically tracks your progress and marks the assignment as complete once all required work has been completed.

1. Open the Assigned Content

Open the assignment and select the course content your teacher has assigned.

Depending on the assignment, this may take you to a:

  • Section
  • Module
  • Lesson
  • Topic

You can then complete the content in the same way you normally use Knowness.

2. Completing Flashcards and Exercises

If the assigned content contains flashcards or exercises, you must attempt the required cards.

A card counts towards assignment completion once it has been reviewed or attempted at least once. The answer does not need to be correct for the card to count as completed.

This means:

  • Correct answers count as completed.
  • Incorrect answers still count as attempts.
  • Skipped cards can still appear as reviewed.
  • Correctness and completion are measured separately.

Your teacher can still see how you performed even when the assignment itself has been completed.

3. Completing Different Types of Assigned Content

The work required depends on what has been assigned.

  • Topic: Complete all required flashcards and exercises within that topic. If the topic contains no cards, its normal topic completion is used instead.
  • Lesson: Complete all required flashcards and exercises within the lesson. If the lesson contains no cards, its normal lesson completion is used instead.
  • Module: Complete all currently published lessons within the module.
  • Section: Complete all currently published lessons within the modules contained in that section.
  • Mixed assignment: Complete every distinct item included in the assignment.

The overall assignment is marked as complete only when all required items have been completed.

4. Existing Progress Counts

Progress you made before the assignment was created still counts.

For example, if you had already attempted every required card in a lesson before your teacher assigned it, Knowness can recognise that existing work.

The assignment may therefore already be partly complete, or even complete automatically, when Knowness next checks your progress.

You do not need to repeat work simply because it was assigned afterwards.

5. How Completion Is Checked

Knowness automatically checks assignment completion as you continue learning.

This can happen when you:

  • submit a flashcard or exercise answer;
  • complete a lesson;
  • complete a topic;
  • open the Assignments page; or
  • open the individual assignment.

Once all required work has been completed, the assignment status changes to Completed.

6. Completing an Overdue Assignment

If you have not completed an assignment by its due date, it becomes Overdue from the following day.

You can still continue working on it after the deadline.

Once all required content has been completed, the assignment can still be marked as Completed.

7. Continuing to Revise Afterwards

Completing an assignment does not remove the content from your normal learning and revision system.

You can continue to revisit its flashcards and exercises through Revision, Decks, or the relevant lesson.

Your assignment completion and your ongoing proficiency are tracked separately.
