The Decks page is Knowness's Deck Manager. It gives you a central place to organise revision across your learning. You can create your own custom decks and use Live Decks that automatically surface cards needing your attention.
Your existing review history is preserved wherever you practise a card, so reviewing the same card through a deck continues its existing revision schedule rather than starting again.
1. Custom Decks
Custom decks let you bring together content you want to revise as a group. You can create a deck by selecting lessons from your courses, allowing you to build revision around the areas you want to focus on.
For example, you might create a deck containing:
- A particular topic area: Combine related lessons from a subject.
- Upcoming assessment content: Group the lessons you want to revise for a test.
- Areas you want to revisit: Collect lessons you want to focus on more closely.
A custom deck does not create separate copies of your cards. The same flashcards and exercises keep their existing review histories and schedules.
2. Live Decks
Live Decks update automatically based on your current revision data. Unlike custom decks, you do not need to manually choose which cards they contain.
Knowness currently provides Live Decks including Due and At Risk.
3. Due
The Due Live Deck brings together previously reviewed flashcards and exercises whose scheduled review time has arrived.
It allows you to see cards that are currently due across your active subjects in one place.
New cards do not enter the dedicated Due deck until they have a review history and later become due.
Use Due when you want to work through revision that Knowness has scheduled for you now.
4. At Risk
The At Risk Live Deck shows reviewed cards whose estimated proficiency is close to dropping into a lower level.
Knowness looks for cards that are near a proficiency boundary or are expected to cross one soon. The deck focuses on cards currently at Medium, High, or Max proficiency.
These cards may not yet be due, but revisiting them can help reinforce the knowledge before proficiency falls.
At Risk is therefore different from Due:
- Due: Cards whose scheduled review time has already arrived.
- At Risk: Cards that are not necessarily due yet but may benefit from review soon.
5. Reviewing Cards Through Decks
When you open a deck, the flashcards and exercises within it use the same revision system as elsewhere on Knowness.
Your answers and ratings continue the existing history of each card and can affect:
- its proficiency;
- when it becomes due again; and
- whether it later appears in a Live Deck.
A card can therefore be studied in a lesson, revised from a subject or module, and later reviewed through Decks while maintaining one continuous review history.
6. Choosing How to Revise
Use custom decks when you want to decide which areas of the course to practise.
Use Due when you want to focus on cards Knowness has scheduled for review now.
Use At Risk when you want to revisit cards whose proficiency may soon decrease.
Together, custom decks and Live Decks give you both control over what you revise and an easy way to follow Knowness's personalised revision schedule.
