Knowness gives teachers one place to manage classes, monitor student progress, assign work, access course content, and use teaching and productivity tools. This guide explains where to find the main teacher features and how to use them.

1. The App Sidebar

The sidebar is the main way to move around Knowness. You can collapse it to create more space and reopen it whenever you need it. On smaller screens, use the menu button in the header to open the sidebar.

The main teacher pages include:

  • Home: View an overview of your classes, student activity, learning time, and recent progress.
  • Subjects: Browse the subjects and courses available to you.
  • Classes: View your classes and open an individual class page.
  • Students: View students across your available classes.
  • Assignments: Create assignments and monitor assigned work.
  • Reports: Explore class and student progress in greater detail.

Some features may depend on your school membership, enabled classes, or account permissions.

2. My Classes

Your available classes appear under My Classes in the sidebar. Classes are grouped by academic year, making it easier to move between different year groups.

Select a class to open its class page. From here, you can view information such as:

  • Class activity: See how actively students are using Knowness.
  • Learning time: See how much time students have spent learning.
  • Proficiency distribution: See how student knowledge is distributed across proficiency levels.
  • Student progress: See how individual students are progressing through their courses.
  • Linked subjects: See the subjects connected to the class.
  • Assignments and reporting: Access work and progress information for that class.

If a class is not yet enabled, you can request enablement from the Classes area. An indicator will show if an enablement request has already been submitted.

3. Viewing Students

The Students area lets you view students across your available classes. Student names are also clickable throughout teacher tables, including on the Home, Students, and individual class pages.

Selecting a student opens a more detailed student view. Depending on the course and available data, this may include:

  • Recent activity: See what the student has been working on recently.
  • Learning time: See how much time the student has spent learning.
  • Lesson completion: See which lessons have been completed.
  • Proficiency: See how secure the student's knowledge currently is.
  • Streak: See the student's current learning streak.
  • Course progress: See how far the student has progressed through a course.

Within course progress, completed lessons display a checkmark. Lessons that have been attempted also display their current proficiency. This makes it easier to identify students who are progressing well and those who may need additional support.

4. Assignments

The Assignments area lets you create and manage work for your students. Assignments can be linked directly to Knowness course content and assigned to:

  • Classes: Assign work to an entire class.
  • Individual students: Assign work to specific students.

When creating an assignment, you can include instructions and a due date. Once an assignment has been sent, you can monitor its completion from the teacher workspace.

This makes it easy to direct students to specific lessons or revision material and keep track of who has completed the work.

5. Reports and Class Analytics

Reports help you understand how students are engaging with Knowness and how their knowledge is developing.

Class-level analytics can provide an at-a-glance view of information such as:

  • Engagement: See how actively the class is using Knowness.
  • Active students: See how many students are currently engaging with the platform.
  • Learning time: See how much time the class has spent learning.
  • Proficiency distribution: See how student knowledge is spread across different proficiency levels.
  • Course progress: See how far students have progressed through their courses.

You can then move into student-level views for more detail. This can help you identify:

  • students who may be falling behind;
  • lessons that may need revisiting;
  • areas where proficiency is low; and
  • students who may need more support or challenge.

6. My Subjects

Subjects connected to your enabled classes appear under My Subjects.

Select a subject to open its main subject page. From here, you can access course content, lessons, revision resources, assessments, progress information, and other subject tools.

Teachers who belong to a connected school receive access through their school membership and do not need to purchase Knowness Plus for those subjects.

7. Viewing Course Content

Teachers can open the same course and lesson content available to students. Courses are organised into sections, modules, and lessons.

Within a lesson, you may see tabs such as:

  • All: View the complete lesson and all of its topics in one place.
  • Learning: Move through the lesson content one topic at a time.
  • Summary: Review a concise summary of the lesson.
  • Revision: View the flashcards and exercises associated with the lesson.
  • Glossary: View definitions of important terms used throughout the lesson.

This allows you to review exactly what students are learning and use the same material when planning, explaining, or setting work.

8. Monitoring Progress

Knowness allows you to monitor both completion and proficiency.

  • Completion shows whether a student has worked through the required learning material.
  • Proficiency shows how secure that knowledge currently is.

This distinction is important because a student may have completed a lesson but still need further revision before the knowledge becomes secure.

You can use progress information to identify areas that may need to be revisited and to decide what to assign next.

For more information about how proficiency and knowledge decay work, see 1.2 How Knowness Works.

9. Account and Settings

Use the account switcher near the top of the sidebar to view or change the active Knowness account.

At the bottom of the sidebar:

  • More: Contains additional resources, including the Help Centre.
  • Settings: Lets you manage your profile, appearance, notifications, security, and account preferences.
  • Log Out: Securely ends your session.
