Teachers create assignments from the Assignments page.

The process has three main stages:

  1. Choose the class and students.
  2. Choose the subject and course content.
  3. Add the assignment details.

Once everything is ready, select Create assignment to send it to the selected students.

1. Choose the Class and Students

Start by selecting an enabled class from the current academic year.

You can assign the work to:

  • The whole class: Every active student in the selected class.
  • Selected students: Specific students chosen from the class.

Only students with active Knowness accounts can receive an assignment.

Students who exist in the school's data but do not yet have an active Knowness account will not appear as eligible recipients.

2. Choose the Subject

Next, select one of the subjects linked to the class.

You can then browse the course structure and choose the content you want to assign.

3. Choose the Course Content

You can assign:

  • A section
  • A module
  • A lesson
  • A topic
  • A combination of different course items

Selecting a larger item automatically includes the relevant content inside it.

For example:

  • Section: Includes the published modules and lessons within that section.
  • Module: Includes the published lessons within that module.
  • Lesson: Includes the published flashcards and exercises within that lesson.
  • Topic: Includes the flashcards and exercises contained within that topic.

You can also combine different items within one assignment, such as two lessons and one topic.

4. Add Assignment Details

Once you have selected the recipients and content, you can add:

  • Title: An optional name for the assignment.
  • Instructions: Optional guidance or information for your students.
  • Due date: An optional deadline for completing the work.

If you do not provide a title, Knowness automatically creates one based on the content you selected.

If only one course item has been selected, its name is used as the assignment title. If several items have been selected, Knowness uses the number of selected course items.

5. Set a Due Date

A due date is optional.

If you set a deadline, the assignment appears on the student's calendar and becomes Overdue from the day after the due date if it has not been completed.

The due date does not prevent the student from continuing the assignment afterwards.

If no due date is set, the assignment remains available until it is completed or deleted.

6. Create the Assignment

Review the selected:

  • class and students;
  • Subject;
  • course content;
  • Title;
  • instructions; and
  • due date.

When everything is correct, select Create assignment.

The assignment is created immediately and appears for the selected students.

Students receive an assignment notification, and an email may also be sent depending on their notification settings.

7. After Creating an Assignment

The current assignment system does not support editing an existing assignment.

If you need to change the recipients, course content, instructions, or due date, the assignment must be deleted and created again.

Deleting an assignment does not remove the student's existing lesson activity, card answers, proficiency, or revision history.

Assignments belonging to archived classes are retained as historical records and cannot be changed or deleted.
