The Muscular System
The muscular system is the body system that produces movement. It includes the muscles and tendons.
The muscles are responsible for producing movement by contracting and relaxing. There are three main types of muscles: skeletal muscles, smooth muscles, and cardiac muscles.
- Skeletal muscles are attached to the bones and are responsible for voluntary movement.
- Smooth muscles are found in the walls of organs and are responsible for involuntary movement.
- Cardiac muscles are found in the walls of the heart and are responsible for pumping blood.
The tendons are strong, fibrous bands of connective tissueA group of similar specialised cells working together to perform a function. that connect the muscles to the bones.
