Taxonomy and Classification

In this lesson, we will be exploring the principles of taxonomy and classification, including the history of classification, the Three-Domain System, the Five-Kingdom System, phylogeny and cladistics. We will begin by discussing the history of classification, including the work of early scientists such as Linnaeus and Darwin, and how their ideas have shaped our current understanding of classification. We will then explore the Three-Domain System, which divides all living organisms into three domains: Bacteria, Archaea, and Eukarya. We will also examine the Five-Kingdom System, which divides organisms into five main groups: Monera, Protista, Fungi, Plantae, and Animalia. Additionally, we will delve into the concepts of phylogeny and cladistics, which are used to understand the evolutionary relationships among different groups of organisms.
