This lesson explores the factors behind their decline, the arrival of Homo sapiensThe species name for modern humans. in Eurasia, and the evidence of interbreeding that reveals how our species and the Neanderthals may have shared both conflict and kinship.

Were they already disappearing without our input? Or did we absorb them into our societies and still carry that heritage with us today? Likely, some combination of these possibilities represents the true picture best.
