4.3 Binary Distillation
Distillation is a process used to separate components of different components, with the simplest version being binary distillation to separate two liquids. Most commonly associated with the oil refining industry, binary distillation is also used in other processes such as the purification of water and production of high concentration alcoholic beverages.
Principle of Distillation
The basis of binary distillation is that the substance with the lower boiling point is more volatile and so any vapour produced will have a majority fraction of this more volatile substance.
