1. Prerequisites

As with many degrees, studying Chemical Engineering is a challenging undertaking, so it is essential to understand what the degree involves, how you can be best prepared for the range of topics you will study, and where the degree can take you career-wise and regarding post-graduate study.

Chemical Engineering encompasses a wide area of study, with an impact across many industries. This course will explore some of the applications of this branch of engineering, and consider how you may be able to focus your studies, through module choices or degree variations, to break into one of these areas.

Chemical Engineering is underpinned by Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, but also has links to other areas, such as Economics, Biology, and even Food Science. As such, to study a Chemical Engineering degree you will need a background in some of these areas, as discussed in the next section.
