GCSE
English Language
In this lesson, we will be exploring how to prepare for your spoken language assessmentAn assessed presentation where students speak on a chosen topic and respond to questions from their teacher.. You will be marked on AO7, AO8 and AO9 (these are not relevant to learn, but good to know before presenting).
Planning
Before you sit your spoken language assessment, plan the topic you are going to talk about. This topic can be anything, let me rephrase, anything appropriate to be questioned on in a school setting. This means hobbies, politics, skills, sports, literally anything can be talked about and presented by yourself. Just make sure you are an expert on what you want to speak about. And remember, you will be questioned on the topic, so try and pick something you are truly knowledgeable about. If you are a high-level sportsperson, or a devout follower of a religion or have an excellent understanding of any subject, use that as a topic.
To help you plan, try and record yourself speaking about a topic and have your family, friends or even AI try and question you on the topic. This way, you can see how you sound (in regards to your confidence, fluencyThe ability to speak smoothly, clearly, and without excessive pauses or hesitation. etc.) and also, you can get a taste for what questioningFollow-up questions asked by the teacher during the assessment to test understanding and response skills. would be like. This will allow you to plan for potential responses and you can surprise your teacher with really insightful comments.
