Metaphysics is a branch of Philosophy that explores the nature of reality. It is sometimes known as “the first Philosophy” because it tries to answer important questions about existence and reality. It considers what lies beyond the physical world that we experience through our senses (sight, sound, touch, taste, smell, etc.).

What Is Metaphysics?

The word “Metaphysics” comes from the Greek words meta (meaning beyond) and physika (meaning nature). This definition shows how Philosophy involves looking into what lies beyond the surface level. You may have noticed the connection to the word “physics”, and while physics investigates the aspects of the universe that we can observe and measure, Metaphysics asks questions that go deeper.
