Isomerism is the phenomenon in which two or more compounds have the same molecular formula but different structures, and it is an important aspect of organic chemistry. There are several types of isomerism, including structural isomerism, stereoisomerism, and conformational isomerism.

Structural isomerism is the phenomenon in which two or more compounds have the same molecular formula but different structures, as a result of the arrangement of the atoms in the molecule. Stereoisomerism is the phenomenon in which two or more compounds have the same molecular formula and the same arrangement of atoms, but the atoms are arranged differently in space. Conformational isomerism is the phenomenon in which two or more compounds have the same molecular formula and the same arrangement of atoms, but the atoms are arranged differently in space due to rotations around single bonds.
