In this module, we will introduce you to the principles of constitutional law in the UK and how it is applied in theory and practice.
We’ll explore the key concepts of constitutional law, including the structureThe organisation and order of information in a text. and functions of the governmentThe public authority that provides services, collects taxes, sets laws and regulations, and helps manage the economy., the separation of powers, and the rule of law. You’ll learn about the main principles that underpin the UK's constitutional framework, such as parliamentary sovereignty and the protection of human rights. We’ll also look at landmark cases that have shaped modern constitutional law and examine the roles and responsibilities of key institutions like Parliament, the judiciary, and the executive.
More than most areas of the law, constitutional law has changed across history as different countries develop new systems of government and public attitude to the way rulers exercise their power moves. We will be looking at the current constitutional law of the UK which may change drastically across your lifetime and should only be seen as a snapshot of today’s law.
