A Law degree can be very rewarding and offers many options, but it is best to be certain you wish to undertake the degree as it can be difficult for many. It is important to know what is required if you want to be accepted onto a course successfully. This guide outlines the requirements and things which might enable you to stand out as an applicant in the process.

Essential A-Level/IB Subjects

If you're thinking about studying Law at university, it's important to pick subjects that show you're capable, hardworking, and interested in learning. While taking Law as an A-Level can be helpful, it's not required, and other subjects can also prepare you well.

Universities like students who can think critically, research properly, and make strong arguments. Essay-based subjects like History, Economics, and English Literature are great for this. However, subjects like Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics can also be useful; especially if you later want to work in areas like intellectual property law where lawyers need to be able to understand complicated scientific ideas.

If you're studying the IB, most UK universities accept it for Law applications. A score between 32 and 36 is usually enough, and taking Higher Level (HL) subjects like History, English Literature, or Economics will make your application stronger.
