Law

The Law in Christianity primarily refers to the moral and ethical commandments given by God in the Old Testament, especially the Ten Commandments. The Law reveals God's standard of righteousness and serves as a guide for moral living. However, the Law also highlights humanity's inability to fulfil it perfectly and points to the need for a Saviour.

The Apostle Paul emphasises that no one can be justified before God by the works of the Law (Romans 3:20). The Law, therefore, functions as a tutor, showing the need for grace and the righteousness that comes through faith in Christ (Galatians 3:24).

Grace

Salvation in Christianity is primarily seen as a gift of God's grace. Grace is God's unmerited favour and love extended to humanity, despite their sinfulness and unworthiness. It is God's initiative to save humanity and is not earned through human efforts.

Ephesians 2:8-9 emphasises this: "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast."

Spirit

The Holy Spirit plays a vital role in the process of salvation. The Holy Spirit convicts individuals of sin, draws them to faith in Christ, and empowers them to live transformed lives in accordance with God's will.

John 16:8 describes the Spirit's role: "When He comes, He will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgement." The Holy Spirit works in believers, enabling them to understand the truth of the Gospel and live a life that reflects Christ's teachings.
