Sin

Sin is a central concept in Christianity, referring to disobedience to God's will and a state of separation from Him. It is understood as a universal problem affecting all humanity since the fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3). Sin results in brokenness, moral corruption, and estrangement from God.

The recognition of sin highlights humanity's need for salvation and the impossibility of achieving righteousness on its own. Sin is not just a collection of individual wrongdoings but a deep-seated condition that affects the human heart and soul.

Original Sin

The concept of original sin stems from the belief that all human beings inherit a fallen nature as a consequence of Adam and Eve's disobedience. Original sin does not imply personal guilt for their actions but the inherited effects of their sin on humanity.

According to this belief, human nature is tainted by sin from birth, and individuals are born with a natural inclination towards sin. Baptism is seen as a sacramental means of washing away original sin and initiating individuals into the Christian community.
