Gottlob Frege (1848–1925) was a German philosopher and logician who expanded on Aristotle’s syllogisms. He revolutionised the field of Logic by introducing a more precise system called predicate logic, and this system forms the basis of modern “symbolic” logic (i.e. using symbols).

Why Did Frege Expand on Syllogisms?

Frege’s method enabled more complex reasoning than Aristotle’s syllogisms, and the use of symbols made arguments more precise, clear, and rigorous. His innovations expanded logic beyond Aristotle’s simple categorical reasoning to include more complex relationships.
