Lenses and Optical Instruments
Lenses and optical instruments are tools that manipulate light in order to see things more clearly or in greater detail. Lenses are transparent objects that have the ability to bend light and focusWhat the writer draws attention to at a given moment (e.g., setting, character, detail). it to a specific point. There are two main types of lenses: converging lenses, which bring parallel light rays to a single point, and diverging lenses, which spread out parallel light rays. Examples of converging lenses include eyeglasses, cameras and binoculars. Examples of diverging lenses include light bulbs.
Optical instruments are devices that use lenses and other optical elements, such as mirrors, to magnify or enhance the image of an object. Some common examples of optical instruments include telescopes, microscopes, and cameras.
A telescope uses a combination of lenses and mirrors to gather and focus light from distant objects, such as stars and planets, and magnify them to make them appear closer. A microscope uses a combination of lenses to magnify small objects, such as cells and microorganismsSingle-celled organisms including bacteria, fungi, and viruses., and make them appear larger. A camera uses lenses to focus light from a scene onto a light-sensitive film or digital sensor, capturing a still image.
