Economists are trained professionals who use their knowledge of economic theory, data and methods to analyze and understand economic phenomena. They work in a variety of sectors, including academia, government, business, and non-profit organizations, providing valuable insights and recommendations to inform policy and decision-making.

Academia: Many economists work as professors and researchers at colleges and universities, teaching economics courses to students, and conducting research in various fields of economics. They may also advise graduate students and publish their research in academic journals.

Government: Economists in government work for different levels of government and agencies like the Central Bank, Ministry of Finance, National Statistical Office, Planning Commission etc. They may conduct research and provide analysis to inform policy decisions, and may also work on projects related to economic forecasting, budgeting and financial regulation.

Business: Economists also work for private companies, often in roles such as market research and analysis, financial analysis and forecasting, and strategic planning. They may also work in roles such as business development, corporate finance, and risk management.

Non-Profit and International Organizations: Many economists also work for non-profit organizations and international organizations such as the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and non-governmental organizations. They may conduct research, provide analysis, and make policy recommendations in areas such as poverty reduction, economic development, and global trade.

Consulting: Some economists work as consultants, providing economic analysis and advice to clients in the private and public sectors. They may also conduct research and provide expert testimony in legal cases.
