Congratulations on reaching the final module of the Economics University Taster Course! We have prepared a checklist of tasks that you might want to complete to prepare yourself for undertaking an Economics degree.

  • Make a list of all the Economics degree types I am interested in.
  • Make a list of the universities that offer the Economics degrees I am interested in.
  • Check that I am doing a combination of A-Levels accepted by the degrees and universities I have chosen. Many Economics courses prefer Mathematics A-Level, and some may require Further Mathematics.
  • Make a plan on how I am going to financially support myself at university. Look into student loans, student living costs in different cities, and university accommodation prices.
  • Put a plan in place to make sure I get the A-level grades I need. Consider setting up a revision schedule and using past papers to prepare.
  • Make sure I have things to talk about in my personal statement. These can include reading books on Economics, following financial news (e.g., The Economist, Financial Times), attending public lectures on Economics at universities, or completing this Taster Course.
  • Explore work experience or extracurricular activities related to Economics that will enhance my personal statement. This could include internships, online courses, or even participating in competitions
  • Make sure I have written a strong personal statement that effectively showcases my interest in Economics and my relevant skills and experiences.
  • Consider if I want to do an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). An EPQ related to an economic issue can strengthen my university application and demonstrate independent research skills.
  • Familiarise myself with key economic concepts and debates. This will help build a strong foundation for university studies.
  • Look into university open days and Economics taster events to gain more insight into the course structure and student experience.
  • Research career paths linked to an Economics degree to understand potential future opportunities and how different courses align with my goals.

Congratulations on completing the Economics Taster Course! Your dedication to exploring the subject is commendable, and we hope this experience has deepened your understanding of Economics and its real-world applications. Whether this course has solidified your interest in pursuing an Economics degree or helped you realise that another field might be a better fit, this exploration is a valuable step in your academic journey.

We encourage you to continue expanding your knowledge, both within Economics and beyond. Try other Taster Courses to discover new interests and develop a well-rounded perspective.
