This lesson covers the academic and personal requirements for an Economics degree. You'll learn about essential subjects, university entry criteria, and ways to enhance your application through extracurriculars and work experience. Whether taking A-Levels, IB, or other qualifications, this guide helps you prepare for a strong university application.

Essential A-Level/IB Subjects

Most universities require specific A-Levels or equivalent qualifications for entry into an Economics degree. Mathematics is often essential, as it is the foundation for understanding key concepts like calculus, algebra, and statistics, which are integral to the study of Economics.

For students pursuing the International Baccalaureate (IB), universities usually require an overall score between 32 and 38 points, with Higher Level (HL) Mathematics being essential or strongly preferred. Achieving grades of 5, 6, or 7 in these subjects ensures readiness for the quantitative and theoretical rigours of an Economics programme.
