Before committing to a history degree, it's important to understand what studying at university involves. This module covers different types of history degrees, related disciplines, and the skills you’ll develop. We’ll also explore how to align your studies with career goals and what to consider when researching universities.

Studying history goes beyond memorising facts—it’s about critically analysing the past, understanding different perspectives, and developing strong research and communication skills. Whether you want to specialise in a particular period or combine history with another subject, this module will help you plan your academic path.

The transition from A-Levels to university can feel like a big leap. At A-Level, you follow a set syllabus, but at university, learning is more independent, guided by specialist professors. While the first few weeks may be challenging, you’ll soon have the chance to choose modules that genuinely interest you, which we’ll explore in lesson 1.1.
