1.1 Requirements to Pursue an Accounting Degree
Before we explore the complex world of Accounting, it's important you know what sort of foundations will help the most in ensuring a successful application to University for an Accounting Degree.
Essential A-Level/IB Subjects
Most universities require a Mathematics A-Level to qualify for any Accounting degree. Mathematics is the only mandatory subjectThe person, place, thing, or idea the clause is about; performs or experiences the verb., as it provides essential knowledge of the subject's fundamentals. Doing an Accounting A-Level is not required for entry, but it will aid your learning journey in Accounting greatly, as it will give you understanding of Accounting principles, which will serve as a strong foundation.
Universities in the UK will typically accept International Baccalaureate (IB) as a valid qualification for entry to Accounting undergraduate degrees. Most institutions require an overall score of 32-36 points to pursue an Accounting degree, though specific requirements may vary. Higher Level (HL) in Mathematics is essential, often with grades of 5, 6, or 7 to demonstrate a solid foundation in numerical reasoning. According to UCAS, the average requirements for an undergraduate degree in Accounting is a CCC in A-Levels or BBBC in Scottish Highers.
