Safety and environmental considerations are critical aspects of reaction engineering. As chemical reactions involve the use of potentially dangerous materials and can release pollutants into the environment, it is essential that reaction engineers take these factors into account when designing and operating chemical processes.

Reaction engineers must consider the potential hazards of a reaction and design reactions and equipment that are safe to operate. This includes assessing the risk of fire, explosion, and toxic gas release, as well as the potential for chemical spills or leaks. They must also consider the potential risks to workers and the public and design safety systems to mitigate these risks. This includes providing proper ventilation and emergency response plans, and providing personal protective equipment.

In addition to safety considerations, reaction engineers must also consider the potential environmental impact of a reaction and design reactions that minimize the release of pollutants to the environment.
