What is Cosmology?

Cosmology is the branch of astronomy that studies the origin, evolution, structure, and ultimate fate of the universe. Cosmology also deals with the ultimate fate of the universe. Some theories propose that the expansion of the universe will continue to accelerate, eventually leading to a “Big Rip” in which the fabric of space and time is torn apart. Others suggest that the expansion will eventually slow down, leading to a “Big Crunch” in which the universe collapses back into a singularity.
