My Graphic Design Internship Experience with Knowness

Completing a remote graphic design internship with Knowness, a creative education brand based in Birmingham, UK, was one of the most exciting and rewarding experiences in my design journey so far. Although the internship was fully remote, I felt genuinely connected to the team and immersed in meaningful work throughout.
One of the highlights of my internship was getting to work on live design projects. I focused mainly on producing custom illustrations for Knowness’ educational content, knowing that my work would help educate and inspire learners was incredibly motivating. It made every task feel purposeful and pushed me to take my responsibilities seriously.
Before joining Knowness, UI/UX design was an area I was curious about but had never had the chance to explore. During the internship, I was given tasks that helped me understand the fundamentals of creating user-friendly and accessible designs. I learned how to approach design from the user’s perspective, ensuring that visuals are not only attractive but also functional and intuitive.
Despite working remotely, the team culture at Knowness was incredibly collaborative and welcoming. Regular video calls, team check-ins, and shared progress updates created a supportive environment where everyone could grow. I learned how vital clear communication, constructive feedback, and collaboration are in a professional design setting.

I had the privilege of being mentored by Mohd Khuram Wani, a talented and experienced graphic designer. His thoughtful feedback and guidance helped me refine my illustration skills, push my creativity, and develop stronger visual storytelling techniques. I also learned about managing deadlines, juggling multiple projects, and staying organised which are key skills for any design professional.
Like any real-world experience, there were challenges. I occasionally found it difficult to balance tasks or figure out how to begin a new project. There were even moments of creative doubt. But thanks to my mentor Mohd, I never felt stuck for long. His insights and support helped me overcome roadblocks, gain confidence, and become a more independent and resilient designer.
A special mention goes to Noor Hamadi, the founder of Knowness, whose kindness and encouragement left a lasting impression. He created an inclusive and respectful space that made me feel valued as part of the team. It’s rare to find such a positive and growth-oriented internship, and I feel lucky to have been part of it.
This internship didn’t just sharpen my design skills, it taught me how to collaborate remotely, stay accountable, and tackle creative challenges with confidence. It reaffirmed my passion for design and helped me build a strong foundation for my future career in the creative industry.
If you’re a student or aspiring designer looking for a remote graphic design internship in the UK, I highly recommend applying to Knowness. The experience was more than just professional development, it was a truly transformative journey that I’ll carry forward into every project I take on next.
